Maxwell T

Got his second set of stitches...this time on the front of his noggin'. Last time was on the back from falling off of the pew at church when he was 1. This time was because he forgot to duck in McDonald's Playland. Apparently when you forget to duck, the consequences are dire.
Seriously...the saddest picture

We'd had dinner there because there was little to no food in the house, and then I left Ty and the kids to play while I grocery shopped. I was almost done when I got a call from Ty. I answered, "Are the kids getting restless?" He responded, "Yeah, ummm, you need to come. Right now." He explained what happened and as he was talking I was running my cart to the front of the store. I'm such a good mom that I asked him if I had time to check out. I know. But he said yes, as long as I could do it fast. We're really awesome parents. I saw long lines of people and was about to ditch my cart when I saw an employee leading a lady to a newly opened lane, so I ran my cart over and said, "Ma'am, ma'am?! I have an emergency. Can I please go in front of you?" I explained the whole thing to her and she was pretty crusty. Either she thought I was lying or wondered why I was bothering to check out. Oh well, I didn't really care what she thought. I just wanted to get through there fast. I got to McDonald's just minutes after the manager finished the report...so I stand by my decision to check out. :) Tyler rode in the back with Max, applying pressure to his head most of the way until the bleeding stopped. We checked the emergency room near our house and then opted for a nearby urgent care with less of a wait. I came home, put the kids to bed, unloaded the groceries, and then had a neighbor come and sit with my sleeping kiddos while I picked Tyler and my newly stitched-up son from urgent care.

What a night! He got the stitches out Saturday morning, which was a tad early so now he has steri-strips. The swelling has finally gone down and now he just has a lovely green/yellow bruise in the middle of his forehead, along with a nicely healing wound. We're hoping to get a college education out of this from Mickey D's. JUST kidding. But the manager did say that they would likely pay for the urgent care visit. They called and took a statement from Tyler, so we'll see. There are dangers lurking everywhere, folks. Just remember to duck when you're supposed to.

Gave a talk in Primary. Well, Tyler gave the talk and Max said a few lines of it. I'm not sure what happened, but brother has developed some stage fright. He is all confidence most of the time, but put him in front of a group of people with a microphone...*silence and nerves* But I want to share the talk because I just asked him a few questions and then wrote his answers, word-for-word. It's pretty darn cute. And he performed it for us with gusto several times on the back of the couch at home and had the whole thing memorized. I put each line on the back of a picture. The talk is about Prophets:
  • A Prophet is someone who teaches you.
  • It's Jesus' words that the prophets are speaking. For behold, Jesus speaks through the prophets. (He was very clear that he wanted me to write down the "for behold" part)
  • Heavenly Father sends a message to His prophets, then they know it, and then they come and teach you.
  • The messages from Jesus tell everyone in the whole world what to do - even robbers!
  • Thomas S. Monson is our Prophet today. I think he's cool and handsome and good at telling us messages from Jesus.
  • I know that prophets love us and Jesus Christ loves us.

We're going to register the boy for kindergarten this week. I think I might have a nervous breakdown. But, boy, is he excited for that new adventure. I certainly love this little man of mine!

"For behold", that part made me laugh. Your kids are too cute. I always show Jeff pictures of them and reiterate the fact that I hope my kids turn out at least half as cute as the Foster kids.

For behold, Max is cool and handsome and good at telling messages in Primary.
That needs to be his daily mirror affirmation.

Deep breaths didn't work, huh?

Russ, he practiced them beforehand and said many-a-prayer to be calm, just like you told him. In fact, he prayed in my closet that morning to be calm and brave and then had us pray again in the van before we went into church. :) So your talk had a big impact on the little man...his nerves were just overpowering. Maybe we should have you come and stand in the back the next time he gives a talk.

I can't tell you how much I feel for him. I was just like that, and still am, to be honest. I just learned, over time, to press through. But I didn't start working on it until I was in my 20's, so he has a head start.

I'd love to help any way I can - I wonder if there is a low stress way for him to get some practice, and then work his way up?

Oh Dana, that picture with the gash in his head!!! Poor Max. How cute is he to say that Pres. Monson is cool and handsome. And from now on, every time I hear For Behold . . . . I'll be thinking of Max!

Kindergarten? Already??

Ah, stitches. We just had our first encounter with those. You sound as though you were much cooler under presser than was I. I don't do well with blood.... And that Primary talk was the cutest thing I ever did see. And I think it may be normal to be scared of microphones and public speaking. I know I was painfully so at Max's age and look how great I turned out:)

Max will get the public speaking jitters mastered in time, I'm sure of it. Who knows, maybe he'll write speeches for the President someday instead. For now, he can get by on his good looks. The stitches are a little soon for the mysterious bad boy image, though. I love your kids!
